Abstract:Against the backdrop of global climate change and the push for ecological progress, land greening has moved beyond just expanding forest area—it now focuses on improving quality and making better use of forests. Hubei Province is an important ecological area along the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Thanks to a series of ecological projects, the province has increased its forest resources in terms of quantity. However, it still faces problems like low forest quality, unbalanced forest structures, and weak scientific and technological support. This paper takes a close look at the main challenges Hubei faces as it shifts toward higher-quality land greening. It focuses on four key areas where technology plays a critical role: tree germplasm innovation, building reliable tree nurseries, land use planning for forests, and setting up monitoring systems for forest ecosystems. The study finds that the main reasons for low-quality, low-benefit forests are:a low level of improved tree varieties, not following the “right tree for the right place” rule properly, and rough forest management. To address these issues, the paper suggests a set of practical solutions:setting up a long-term system for tree breeding, promoting high-quality development of reliable nurseries, making careful plans for forest land use, and building a monitoring network that combines satellite,aerial,and ground data. The goal is to use science and technology across the whole process to help raise the quality of regional forests and achieve high-quality forestry development.
