Abstract:Cyclocarya paliurus is a rare and endangered tree species endemic to China with multiple values including medicinal and ornamental applications. In recent years, the market demand for products derived from C. paliurus has kept rising, bringing great challenges to the conservation of its germplasm resources and large-scale propagation. The scarcity of natural communities and inherent difficulties in its reproduction have become core bottlenecks restricting the industrial development of C. paliurus. This paper systematically reviews research advances in sexual and asexual propagation techniques of C. paliurus. Sexual propagation is limited by high seed empty-grain rate and deep dormancy, so relevant studies mainly focus on seed screening and dormancy breaking. For asexual propagation, tissue culture and cuttage technologies have achieved certain progress, yet unsolved obstacles such as browning, vitrification and poor rooting still exist; besides, research on grafting technology remains relatively insufficient. Finally, prospects for future research directions are proposed in this study, aiming to provide references for germplasm conservation and large-scale propagation of C. paliurus.
