Abstract:From 2023 to 2024, pilot projects for sustainable forest management were implemented in 15 state-owned forest farms in Hubei Province, covering a total area of 7 567 hm2. The pilot projects introduced the concept of target tree management, differentiated management based on the breast height diameter of the main forest layer, and achieved significant results mainly through measures such as selection of target trees and interfering trees, monitoring of effectiveness plots, and construction of permanent forests. However, through research discussions, provincial-level inspections, and field surveys, it was found that there were still issues such as low forest quality, backward management levels, and difficulties in forming a virtuous cycle mechanism. Therefore, suggestions such as gathering momentum to empower and achieve integrated development, cultivating talents and enhancing skills to improve intelligent management efficiency, and taking multiple measures to promote forest maintenance through forestry were proposed, in order to provide reference for exploring and promoting standard models of sustainable forest management in Hubei.
