Abstract:Polygonatum cyrtonema is an important medicinal and edible homologous plant in China. Its rhizomes possess functions such as tonifying Qi, nourishing Yin, strengthening the spleen, and moistening the lungs, and have attracted increasing attention with the rapid development of the forest-based economy. Hubei Province is endowed with abundant germplasm resources and favorable ecological conditions suitable for the growth of P. cyrtonema, leading to the rapid expansion of its industry. However, the industry still faces several challenges, including insufficient protection of germplasm resources, a shortage of elite cultivars, a low level of standardization in cultivation and processing, and a lack of high value-added products. Based on field investigations and a whole-industry-chain analysis, this study systematically reviews the current development status and key issues of the P. cyrtonema industry in Hubei Province, covering resource conservation, cultivation, and processing sectors. Corresponding countermeasures are proposed to provide scientific evidence and practical references for promoting the high-quality development of the P. cyrtonema industry in Hubei Province.
