Abstract:This study takes the Ba-river and Xi-river watersheds in Huanggang City as the research area, and uses the data from the Third National Land Survey, the Second Class Forest Resources Survey in Hubei Province, and the Hubei DEM terrain data. With the help of GIS spatial analysis technology, ecological risk diagnosis and analysis of watershed comprehensive management are carried out. The research system analyzed the distribution of forest quality and water ecology issues in the Ba-river and Xi-river watersheds, identifying the distribution of forests with low unit area accumulation, sparse and overly dense forest stands, soil erosion risk areas, and non-point source pollution risk areas in the two watersheds and counties where they are located. Results indicate: Forest area with low growing stock per unit area is 127,175.31 hm2, accounting for 19.05% of the total basin area and 12.32% of the counties'/cities' total land area. The total area of sparse forest stands is 13,332.77 hm2, accounting for 2.00% of the total basin area and 1.29% of the counties'/cities' total land area. The total area of over-dense forest stands is 2,926.11 hm2, accounting for 0.44% of the total basin area and 0.28% of the counties'/cities' land area. The extremely high-risk soil erosion area covers 771.68 hm2, constituting 0.12% of the total basin area and 0.07% of the counties'/cities' land area. The non-point source pollution risk area spans 206,098.13 hm2, representing 30.87% of the total basin area and 19.97% of the counties'/cities' land area. Finally, the study proposes forestry management strategies concerning the ecological utilization of precision improvement of forest quality and comprehensive management of water ecosystems. These aim to provide targeted guidance for relevant engineering practices in each county/city and offer technical support for ecological conservation and sustainable development in the river basins.
