Camellia hybrid ‘High Fragrance’ is a camellia cultivar with strong fragrance which was selected and bred by J.R.Finlay. It was hybrid developed by the inbred lines ‘Mrs Bertha A.Harms’ and the unnamed Hybrid seedling from ‘Salab’ and ‘Scentuous’. It was introduced into China by Research Institute of Subtropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry in 1992. In 2010 it was introduced into Hubei Province by Forestry and Fruit Institute, Wuhan Academy of Agricultural Sciences.‘High Fragrance’ is a kind of evergreen shrubs or arbors with thick branches. Its leathery leaves are dark green with smooth surface. The flowers look like peony with light ivory pink colour. Flower diameter is 8.5～9 cm. It blooms in the whole March. ‘High Fragrance’ would be planted well in the south of Yangtze River. It is a very good choice of new varieties for gardening.
