We collected some seeds and seedlings from preservation nursery of poplar germplasm resources and experimental forest. Then we sowed and raised seedlings，and selected the best， which was named as ‘Yangtze poplar’.Then， a contrast experiment was conducted in Jianli County for clones including ‘Yangtze poplar’ and ‘Zhongjia poplar’，‘Zhongjian poplar’，etc. A regional trial of Yangtze poplar was carried out in Jianli County， Gucheng County and Yiling District. It was demonstrated that the ‘Yangtze poplar’ is an excellent timber tree species， suitable for planting in the plains of Hubei Province， but not suitable for planting in mountainous areas and hilly areas. It is suggested that the Yangtze poplar should be widely applied in the plains of Hubei province.
