Abstract:Phyllostachys edulis (Moso bamboo) in Chongyang had been taken as research object. With 4 density stands, i.e., 1300±100 stems·hm?2 (D1), 1900±100 stems·hm?2 (D2), 2500±100 stems·hm?2 (D3) and 3100±100 stems·hm?2 (D4), a study of effect of stand density on water conservation capacity had been studied. Results showed that although the difference of canopy interception rate among bamboo stand density was not significant, the difference of canopy interception was significant. Regressions for both semi-decomposition and no decomposition litter water holding capacity to soaking time were logarithmic equation, regressions for both semi-decomposition and no decomposition litter water absorption rate to soaking time were power function equation. The maximum water holding capacity of litter in different density stand was 0.81~1.21 mm, and increased with the increase of the stand density. The total maximum water holding rate of litter was 380.39~402.13%. Stand effective interception was 0.75~0.92 mm, effective interception rate of 292.92%~311.31%, and it increased with stand density increase. Soil moisture content was 11.21%~13.70% and soil bulk density 1.19~1.34 g/cm3. Total soil capillary porosity was 52.89%~54.77%, soil capillary porosity decreased with the increase of soil depth, and soil non-capillary porosity was 9.39%~10.22%. The effect of stand density on soil physical properties and soil permeability were not significant. Saturated soil water storage capacity of Moso bamboo forest was 3173.35~3286.11 t·hm?2, the difference of saturated soil water storage capacity among different density stand was not significant. Although the differences of soil capillary water capacity among different density stand was not significant, the difference of soil non-capillary water capacity was significant. The total water conservation capacity of Moso bamboo forest was 584.15~626.58 t·hm?2, the percent of soil water storage capacity, the percent of canopy conservation capacity and the percent of litter water holding capacity were 96.41%~97.91%, 0.79%~1.51% and 1.30%~2.07%, respectively.
