Abstract:In order to know the most suitable area for the growth of Picea abies in the west of Hubei Province, we conducted the introduction test of Picea abies of German provenance and the experimental result showed that the test tree performed well.The average height,DBH（diameter at breast height） and volume of 25 year old stand was 13.2m,19.8cm and 0.2062m3,respectively.Compared with planation of Cunninghami a lanceolata,Pinus henryi and Pinus tabuliformis,the volume of the stand increased by 38.7%～46.9%. The altitude test showed that the difference of the height of 6 year old Picea abies at the altitude from 1060 m to 1916 m was not significant,and the area at the altitude from 1 500 m to 1 900 m and with the annual rainfall of more than 1 000 mm was suitable for planting Picea abies to build the industrial material forest or seed orchard.
