Abstracts:From May to August in 2007,sample transect method was used to investigate birds diversity in 4 residential areas of Shennongjia Nature Reserve in Hubei Province．A total of 106 species were recorded，belonging to 33 families,10 orders．In composition of avian fauna in the region，the number of Palearetie species was 33 accounting for 31.3％，the number of Oriental species was 59 accounting for 55.7％，and the number of widespread species was 14 accounting for 13.2％.In 4 towns，Shannon-Wiener index of birds in Yangri town was the highest，and the index in Songbai town was the lowest;Pielou’s evenness index of birds in Songbai town was the highest，and the index in Yangri town was the lowest。The bird communities of Songbai town and Hongping town were most dissimilar.
