Dioscorea zingiberensis C. H. Wright is the most important plant for steroid drugs production. One of the key points for sustainable development of the Dioscorea zingiberensis-steroid drug industry is to improve the diosgenin content in cultivar Dioscorea zingiberensis. The research results and Dioscorea zingiberensis cultivation in recent years have demonstrated that the main factors affecting the diosgenin content in cultivar Dioscorea zingiberensis are the variety, growth years, growing environment, fertilizer and cropping system.
