Up to end of 1990s, 89 poplar clones such as Lushan poplar have been totally introduced by Working Station for National Forest Farm of Hubei Province; through respective trials for selection and afforestation in seedling stage that are carried out in Wuhan, Qiangjiang, Jingmen and Chibi. The initial test results showed that 5 clones such as Lushan poplar and Shengshan poplar etc. through distant hybridization and selective breeding by groups not only have long growth period and fast growth, but also have excellent characteristics such as straight and round, strong resistance and good timber quality, From 1999, we began to extend the species over southern provinces including Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi and had obtained success; a few of clones had been extended into northern provinces such as Henan and Shandong etc.
